Senior Vice President for Finance and Treasurer

Marianne Cwalina is the senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer (CFO) at Brandeis serving as the chief business officer of the university, with responsibility for establishing and maintaining financial infrastructure and policies for the university.
She is responsible for the university’s relationships with lending institutions, the external financial community, and with external financial consultants. The CFO is responsible for issuance of management and board financial reports, and the university’s financial statements. She advises senior leaders across the university in the development of long-range financial policy and on debt policy and capacity, analyzes the university’s financial and accounting operations and serves as a leader in developing opportunities and initiatives to enhance organizational efficiencies that serve the long-term mission of the university.
Prior to joining Brandeis in 2011, Cwalina was the executive director of financial operations at Bentley University where she collaborated with trustees, officers, faculty and senior management on financial and operational problems and on the efficiencies or inconsistencies of departmental financial plans with strategic plans. Cwalina worked at Bentley for more than 23 years in positions of budget director and controller before being promoted to executive director.
During her tenure at Bentley, she and her team identified business process improvement opportunities and led financial system and process design changes. She led the review and assessment of systems and processes associated with accounts payable and purchasing; student receivables, loan management and financial aid; cash management; and general accounting for improved efficiencies and opportunities to use the latest technology to improve customer service and reduce costs.
She began her career in health services as business manager for Ambulatory Radiology Center at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by working as the director of financial planning & systems support at Carney Hospital.
Cwalina earned a BS in accounting at Northeastern University and a MS in finance at Bentley University.
