Office of the President

Departure of Ira Jackson, EVP, Communications and External Relations

Dec. 20, 2018

Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,

I am writing to inform you that Ira Jackson, Executive Vice President for Communications and External Relations, has decided to leave Brandeis University. Ira’s last day at Brandeis will be December 31.

Looking ahead, I have decided that the University would be best served by splitting the Executive Vice President for Communications and External Relations role into two positions, one focusing on external relations and the other on communications. We will soon commence a search for a Senior Vice President of Communications, and follow with a search for a Vice President for External Relations.

We have secured an Interim SVP of Communications from a firm that provides interim talent to universities, William (Bill) Walker, who will provide leadership to the office during the search period. Bill has extensive experience in higher education communications, including positions at Dartmouth, RPI and Rutgers. We look forward to Bill joining us on January 14. Having an external Interim SVP of Communications will allow us to have a full and open search process, as Bill will not be a candidate for the permanent position. We will announce details regarding the search process soon.

During this transition, please don’t hesitate to contact members of the Communications office directly for your needs and collaboration.

We wish Ira the best of success in his future endeavors.

Thank you,

Ron
