Major/minor: Sociology major, Business minor
Study abroad program: CIEE/ Liberal Arts in Seville, Spain (Fall 2018)
Reason you chose this program: I wanted to study abroad in Seville, Spain with CIEE Seville because it provided me a great opportunity to immerse myself in the Spanish culture and take classes entirely in Spanish.
Favorite class: My Anthropology of Sports class was amazing. We learned about the impact of sports on culture and politics. Through this class, I got to volunteer at an international rowing competition and speak on a local sports radio show.
Housing situation: I stayed in a homestay with a family of eight.
Best memory: My best memory was volunteering as a basketball coach for the Real Betis Energia Plus’ youth team. It was fun teaching the game I love and to be able to make international basketball connections.
Greatest challenge: The language barrier was by far the most challenging part for me. The sevillano accent was difficult for me to understand at first, but I eventually grew accustomed to it.
What you know now that you didn't know before: I didn’t know that there were other languages spoken in Spain besides Spanish, such as Catalan, Basque, and Galician.
Fact about Spain that you think people would be surprised to learn: Spain has the fourth highest life expectancy in the world.
