Welcome to your sophomore year at Brandeis University!
A student’s sophomore year is a time for continued exploration. As a sophomore, stay open and do not be afraid to try new courses/departments. If you are able to do this, you will find this year to be both exciting and filled with opportunities that did not come up during your first-year.
Things to think about as a sophomore:
While you may feel like everyone around you knows exactly what they want to study, in fact the majority is still exploring. Therefore, keep your options open. Your first semester is an opportunity to continue to try out other academic areas while reflecting on the courses you have already taken. This will undoubtedly help you to figure out your area of interest.
Continue to explore your options by attending sophomore specific academic planning events with the Sophomore Year Experience (SYE), as well as departmental open houses, Hiatt workshops, and study abroad information sessions.
Connect and consult with various advisors on campus such as your class advisor, academic advisor, Undergraduate Advising Heads, and Undergraduate Departmental Representatives.
As you continue to discover your interests, it may lead to pursuing opportunities that can help to reinforce common themes.
A hands-on summer internship, an idea for an independent study and/or fellowship, or an amazing semester or year studying abroad at one of Brandeis’ over 250 approved programs can all couple nicely together.
A quick question can often lead to a dynamic conversation. Your acadenic advisor is a resource available to help you to navigate through your journey here at Brandeis both academically and personally. Please do not hesitate to schedule an appointment to meet with any questions, concerns, suggestions, or just to chat by calling 6-3470 or stop in during office drop in hours Monday-Friday from 1-5 PM.
