Our Thoughts and Prayers to the Philippines

Dec. 19, 2011

The Staff of the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) are saddened at the news over the weekend of the devastation caused by the typhoon and flooding in the Philippines.

While we have been watching reports of the severe flooding and landslides in certain areas, it is, of course, very difficult to assess the overall tragedies being experienced by the Philippine citizens across the country.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are affected by this tragedy.

In addition to the international students and scholars from the Philippines who are studying, pursuing research, and teaching at Brandeis, there are many in our community who may have family, friends, or colleagues in the affected areas, and as such this has had a direct impact on the entire Brandeis Community.

Being away from home during these times make it even more vital for everyone to utilize the support networks here at Brandeis. It is during these times that we want to send out a reminder to encourage anyone who needs support or assistance at this time to feel free to contact the ISSO, or any Brandeis staff member, as we are prepared to help in any way we can.

It is also important at this time to reach out to those closest to you who may be dealing with these events, those who are concerned about family or friends in this region.  Student Life Staff, the Chaplaincy, and the Counseling Center are also available to assist members of our community.  We are here for you.

Please do not hesitate to contact the ISSO if we can help in any way. Feel free to stop by the ISSO (Kutz Hall, Room 215), or we can be reached by email (isso@brandeis.edu) or by phone (781-736-3480).

Our thoughts and prayers to all during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
The ISSO Staff
