Spring Employment Workshops and Photo Contest Reminder

INTERNSHIP DATES FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER: 1/17/2012 - 5/10/2012
You are eligible to work part time during the academic semester which is up to 20 hours per week. As stated in our CPT materials, the ISSO requires a ten-day lead time to process authorizations. Internships this semester must end by Thursday, May 10, 2012,the last day of finals for the Spring semester.
If you are graduating in May and plan to apply for OPT, you can apply beginning 90 days before the end of the term. You do not need a job offer to apply for OPT. We encourage you to file as early as possible, since it can take three months to receive your OPT card. Please attend a workshop (see schedule below) before applying.
We are always happy to meet with you in person to discuss your career goals and how you may accomplish them while on a student visa. Please feel free to contact ISSO to set up an appointment (isso@brandeis.edu).

ISSO Photo Contest: My Favorite Place(s)
It's that time of year again! We are now accepting submissions for our annual photo contest. This year's theme is "My Favorite Places." This is also the same as this month's theme for ISSO Open Mic (It is not required to do both. See below for more information).
Who can participate? Students, scholars, faculty and staff are all welcome to submit entries.
When: Come and cast your vote from 9-5 on February 2, 2012. We will have hot cocoa and cookies from 3:30-5pm.
Where: ISSO Office, Kutz Hall, Room 215
Photos are due by this Thursday, January 26.

Want to be a Roosevelt Fellow?
The Office of Academic Services is now accepting applications from rising juniors and seniors for the 2012-2013 academic year. Roosevelt Fellows are select upper class peer mentors who assist students, particularly members of the first-year class, with their academic and personal acclimation to Brandeis University. The first role of the fellow is to provide one-on-one academic advising sessions; these sessions are held in the Office of Academic Services, the residence halls, and via email or other digital media. The second role is to develop and facilitate campus events, including social events, residential academic programs, orientation events, and academic workshops held throughout the year. Roosevelt Fellow responsibilities begin over the summer – though summer interactions are all internet-based, so they can be performed from anywhere in the world.
The Office of Academic Services is also accepting applications for the position of Roosevelt Fellow Coordinator. The Roosevelt Fellow Coordinator will assist the Director of Class Based Advising in designing and implementing Roosevelt Fellow Training in August and will help coordinate group planning of events and initiatives throughout the academic year. Prior experience as a Roosevelt Fellow is preferred; however, all applicants are encouraged to consider applying for the Roosevelt Fellow Coordinator position.

All Spring 2012 Employment Workshops will cover Curricular Practical Training (CPT, for F1 Visa holders) starting at 3pm, Optional Practical Training (OPT, for F1 Visa holders) from 3:30pm-4:30, and Academic Training (AT, for J1 Visa holders) starting at 4:30 until 5pm.
Workshops will be in the conference room of Kutz 215.
On Campus Event: Dunya

Dunya, which means world in multiple languages, is a musicians’ collective founded by composer, musician and musicologist Mehmet Sanlikol and ethnomusicologist Robert Labaree in 2004. They present music styles within and beyond Turkish music. Their goal is to present a contemporary view of a wide range of Turkish traditions, alone and in interaction with other world traditions, through performance, publication and other educational activities. They have toured across Europe and US, been featured by many media sources including NPR and have even submitted their recent CD for the Grammy awards.
7.00 pm - Pre Concert Talk with Mehmet Sanlikol
8.00 pm - Concert!
9.30 pm - Artists' Reception. Light Turkish refreshments will be served.
