Our Thoughts and Prayers to Turkey

Oct. 25, 2011

October 25, 2011

The Staff of the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) are saddened at the news of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Turkey.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are affected by this tragedy.

In addition to the international students and scholars from Turkey who are studying, pursuing research, and teaching at Brandeis, there are many in our community who may have family, friends, or
colleagues in the affected areas, and as such this has had a direct impact on the entire Brandeis Community.

Being away from home during these times make it even more vital for everyone to utilize the support networks here at Brandeis.  We encourage anyone who needs support or assistance at this time to feel free to contact the ISSO, or any Brandeis staff member, as we are prepared to help in any way we can. It is also important at this time to reach out to those closest to you who may be dealing with these events, those who are concerned about family or friends in this region.  Student Life Staff, the Chaplaincy,
and the Counseling Center are also available to assist members of our community.  We are here for you.

A couple of our current students from Turkey have provided the following links to organizations currently providing relief support in the effective regions:

Turkish Red Crescent Society  (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)

Turkish Philanthropy Funds

And the following event will be hosted by the Turkish Cultural Center Boston this weekend to provide support for relief efforts:

*Turkish Cultural Center Food Fair to Benefit Van (Turkey) Earthquake Victims

Date:  Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 1:00pm-5:00pm

at the Turkish Cultural Center Boston, 1105 Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, MA

For more information about the event, contact Nur (646-626-3902)

Please do not hesitate to contact the ISSO if we can help in any way. Feel free to stop by the ISSO (Kutz Hall, Room 215), or we can be reached by email (isso@brandeis.edu) or by phone (781-736-3480).

Our thoughts and prayers to all during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
The ISSO Staff
