Taxes for International Students and Scholars
ALL international students and scholars who were physically here during the year 2008 must file Form 8843, "Statement for Exempt Individuals with a Medical Condition". The purpose of this form is to confirm your non-resident status. If you earned income, you should have received, in the mail, W-2 form from your employer, or you may receive Form 1042-S sometime in March if you claimed a tax treaty or received funding from Brandeis that is not taxable. If you have earned income in the U.S., you will need the form W-2 and / or form 1042-S to file your tax return.
Many students and scholars find that completing tax forms can be complicated. Our office purchases a group license for CINTAX, a tax software specializing in completing tax forms for international students and scholars. You may purchase the software for $5 (cash only please) at the ISSO and we will email you a login and password the same day.
