Applying to the TYP

TYP Students

We're happy you want to know more about the TYP. Here's some information that will be helpful for applying to the program.

Each year, the TYP admits 20 outstanding students to the program.  Every applicant must be projected to complete high school or its equivalent (e.g. earning a GED) prior to the start of the 2012-13 academic year.

Each applicant must submit the following materials by the March 1 deadline:

  1. Completed Common Application, making sure to check the TYP box.  Please note: In response to the question about why you're choosing Brandeis, please tell us why you're choosing to apply to the TYP specifically.
  2. Official copy of all high school transcripts and/or GED certificate.
  3. Official copy of SAT or ACT scores and TOEFL scores, if applicable.
  4. Official transcript(s) for any course(s) taken at the postsecondary school level.
  5. Three letters of recommendation, preferably from teachers, guidance counselors, mentors, employers, etc.
  6. A 400-word essay about what makes you a good candidate for the TYP (in place of the Personal Statement).
  7. A copy of your U.S. Permanent Resident Visa (Green Card) if not a U.S. citizen.
  8. Completed CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE--you may qualify for a fee waiver automatically, but if you have additional concerns about affording to pay to submit the application, please contact Cathy Nelson at cnelson@brandeis.edu.

* It is strongly suggested that applicants to the TYP set up an interview.  Upon receipt of applications, we may also contact candidates and request that they interview with us.
