Noam Kagedan
Class of 2010
For Noam, the Jewish community was one of the major selling points of Brandeis. He sings in one of the many performance groups on campus, Jewish Fella Acappella (JFA). He’s also involved in the Brandeis Orthodox Organization (BOO) which serves the Orthodox community of Brandeis University, serving to fulfill and further the religious, social, and cultural needs of the Orthodox Jewish population on campus.
Noam liked the strength of the academics, the attitude, friendliness, and intelligence of Brandeis students, and the activities in which he could participate. His anticipated major is Economics with a minor in Business, but he admits both of these could change easily.
Noam attended a high school that had a dual curriculum - half of the day was spent on religious studies while the rest was full of typical subjects. While there, he was on the hockey team, was captain of the College Bowl team and was the captain of a school-wide cultural competition. At Brandeis, Noam participates as a tour guide through the Admissions Office. He also volunteers at the Waltham Kid's Club through the Waltham Group; a volunteer, community service organization through which hundreds of Brandeis students participate in outreach programs on campus, in Waltham and the greater Boston community through service and advocacy.
Because he can juggle (both figuratively and literally), walk on both knees with legs folded pretzel style, and lick his elbow (it’s supposed to be impossible), it’s not surprising that he includes “mitzvah clowning” on his lengthy list of activities. He fondly recalls doing cartwheels in the Shapiro Campus Center atrium with his friend at 4:30 am during a brief break from writing a paper for his Anthropology class. Noam also reflected on his Fundamentals of Music professor, who “has spent a lot of time with me after classes showing me more about music theory, playing guitar and piano, and singing simply because I’ve always been interested, but never had the opportunity to delve into the subject. It really enriched what I learned in the course!”
Noam’s hometown is Teaneck, New Jersey
