What We Look For
When we look at your application, we do our best to understand how you will fit into the Brandeis community. The Office of Admissions looks at your:
Academic record
Did you challenge yourself? How successfully did you meet the challenge? What types of classes (AP, honors, college prep) did you take? There is no minimum grade-point average for admission to Brandeis; however, 71 percent of Brandeis students are in the top 10 percent of their high school classes. |
Extracurricular activities
How did you spend your time outside of the classroom? Do you show evidence of commitment and leadership? Do you work during the school year? |
Essay and recommendations
What do you say about yourself, and what do others say about you? |
Standardized tests
Brandeis requires that students send official scores for the SAT Reasoning Test and two other SAT Subject Tests, or the ACT with Writing in place of all SATs. Students for whom English is not a first language should take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). |
Interviews
Sometimes, essays and transcripts don't tell us the whole story. An interview gives you an opportunity to tell us about yourself face-to-face, unconstrained by the formality of the written page and the remoteness of school records. Interviews are not required, but are often helpful for students to ask questions and share additional personal information. Rising high school seniors (students who will be seniors during the academic year of 2007-2008) may sign up for an on-campus interview. On-campus interviews are available in the fall of your senior year. If you are unable to visit campus, you may sign up for an off-campus alumni interview.
