Varsity Athletics
Brandeis fields 20 Division III varsity athletic programs. The Judges, as Brandeis teams are known, compete in the University Athletic Association, comprising Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, New York University, the University of Chicago, the University of Rochester and Washington University (St. Louis). UAA teams are among the most successful athletic programs in the nation, giving Brandeis athletes a chance to prove themselves against the best Division III has to offer.
Over the years, Brandeis has won NCAA team championships in men's soccer and men's cross country, as well as 24 individual titles. Last year, the women's basketball team was ranked first in the country for much of the season and posted its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
In fall 2006, both the men's soccer team and women's volleyball team were crowned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III champions. This fall, both men's and women's basketball teams were selected to participate in the NCAA Division III championships. The men's team made its third consecutive NCAA appearance and the women's team, fourth consecutive appearance.
