Home Cooked Meal
16 Nov 2009, 10:23PM
Last Saturday night three of my friends and I were picked up by my mother and were driven off to my house for a nice home cooked dinner. I'm from the suburbs of Boston, my house not even a thirty minute drive away, and so when my mom suggested bringing some friends home I thought, why not? Towards the beginning of the year she had proposed this as well but I had declined on the grounds that I wanted to get a closer group of friends first. Well, with the semester almost over and everyone with papers to write I decided that now my friends and I could use a really good meal.
I've been raving about my mom's cooking all year to almost anyone who'll listen, so the three friends I took with were all looking to see if I was telling the truth about this amazing food. I don't think anyone was disappointed. My mom made roasted chicken, bouillabaisse and cookies for dessert, and it was all delicious. I knew my mom had been waiting all Semester to meet some of my classmates and she finally got her wish.
From what I've seen it's not such a rare occurrence for local Brandeis students to take friends over to their houses for dinner. I have a friend who at the beginning of the semester went to the house of another first-year for a pasta dinner. There have also been various weekend events taking place at houses of locals. There's a fairly sizable population of local students, so make sure to befriend some for free meals.
