Guided by some of the best researchers in their fields, students participate in real, cutting-edge research.

The Brandeis Health Sciences community includes world-renowned research faculty with a commitment to undergraduate education. Brandeis students in the health sciences enjoy personal interactions with some of the best researchers in their fields, in a small classroom or laboratory setting.

The community of health science students extends beyond the classroom. The Health Occupations Students of America, Pre-Dental Society, Pre-Health Society, Pre-Vet Club and Psychology Club are student organizations that provide information, advice, support and social interaction among health-science students. The Pulse, a student-run journal, educates the Brandeis community on issues in health care.

Individualized advising offered by Health Professions Advising within the Office of Academic Services allows students to design plans of study that suits their goals and to explore their options for health-related careers. A personal adviser guides each student through the application process.

OPPORTUNITY

The Environmental Field Semester offers students experience in land conservation and stewardship, using Waltham and other local communities as living labs.

Guided by the world-class research faculty at Brandeis University, undergraduate students have the opportunity to join scientific research teams and participate in cutting-edge biomedical research. Some students join research laboratories as early as the freshman year, although many begin in their junior year and gain course credit through senior research. Through their individual work, undergraduates make real contributions to biomedical science and have co-authored 81 research publications in the last decade.

Internships allow students to have hands-on experiences as part of their education at Brandeis.

The Brandeis Environmental Field Semester provides an intensive, integrated study of conservation biology and environmental history using local communities as a resource. Students explore the range of regional biodiversity and land stewardship through day and multiday trips and gain an in-depth understanding of the history, ecology, laws and politics behind how land is used.

The upcoming Justice Brandeis Semester will offer students the chance to study environmental health and justice through an intensive, immersive experiential learning course.

Brandeis undergraduate students can gain early acceptance to Tufts Medical School in their sophomore year through the Tufts University School of Medicine Early Acceptance Program.

Promoting health and well being in diverse human societies is a challenge facing medicine today. In the classroom, students study real-life problems concerning health and disease, in addition to basic concepts in biology.

Outside the classroom, health science students at Brandeis pursue the goal of social justice by serving their communities in various ways.

The Waltham Group is composed of volunteers who serve in a collection of local community programs, including tutoring, mentorship and support services.

The Brandeis Emergency Medical Corps is a student-run emergency first response service that aids the Brandeis community.

The Foundation for the International Medical Relief of Children raises money and awareness for children’s aid and performs community service projects.
