In the Heart of America

In the Heart of America

By Naomi Wallace
Directed by Janet Morrison
February 7-10
Laurie Theater, Spingold Theater Center

"There is a powerful drift in the play that speaks to me very deeply. I can hear it inside me. The characters are from different backgrounds/cultures/wars. That helps me see that the scars, the pain, the hope and the striving are alive in all of them. Even if some of them are actually 'dead.'"
- Director Janet Morrison

"In the Heart of America" focuses on the character of Fairouz, a Palestinian-American woman searching for her missing brother, a soldier who served in Iraq. Playwright Naomi Wallace weaves a surreal plot that crosses time and space, blending and blurring the atrocities of war across countries and conflicts, from the Vietnam War to the Gulf War.
