Call to Artists

Are you a Brandeis student, faculty member, or staff member with an idea for the Festival of the Arts?

Every year, the Brandeis Office of the Arts gives grants to support original creative work by Brandeis students, staff and faculty for the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts. Proposals for works of music, theater, performance, and visual art are all welcome, and interdisciplinary proposals are especially encouraged. Applications for the 2018 festival (April 15-22) are due January 22, 2018. An optional preliminary letter of interest (if you would like early feedback) is due December 11, 2017.

Dream big and be ready to rethink and refine. We want to see you succeed, and the most successful projects in the past have been the ones that went through a good deal of thoughtful revision.

Read grant guidelines here.

The application and letter of interest forms are here.

Theater, music, visual art, dance, film and video -- we welcome proposals of all kinds, especially for projects that are interdisciplinary or collaborative. For 2018, we give priority to proposals that have to do with Leonard Bernstein's life, his work, or his influence.

However, a grant is not necessary to participate in the Festival. Here's how you can still participate:

1. Apply to give a 20-minute performance on the afternoon of Sunday, April 15 in select locations on lower campus. Performances need to be family friendly and require minimal technical support. Applications will open in January 2018. These performances are produced by the Office of the Arts.

2. Are you producing your own event? Arts events on campus that take place on campus between April 15-22 will be considered for inclusion in official Festival publicity. Write to arts@brandeis.edu for more information.

3. If you would like to hold an event at Light of Reason, the public artwork outside the Rose Art Museum, please submit a Light of Reason application.
