2008 Grant Awards
More than 100 students and faculty will participate in 45 dance, music, theater and multidisciplinary projects at Brandeis during the 2008 Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts, sponsored in part through funding from the Office of the Arts. Grants are awarded to Brandeis undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff to produce innovative and artistic work that offer the Brandeis community opportunities to create, participate and learn about the arts. The jury evaluates applications on the quality and innovation of the project, and the potential for broad involvement of the Brandeis community during the festival.
The grant jury for the 2008 festival comprises Ingrid Schorr and Scott Edmiston of the Office of the Arts, Danielle Friedman '09 (Fine Arts), Monique Gnanaratnam (Intercultural Center), Stephanie Grimes (Student Activities), Molly Haas-Hooven '09 (Theater), Shawna Kelley (staff, Music), Adrianne Krstansky (faculty, Theater Arts), Lisa Lynch (Women's Studies Research Center), Scott Moerdler '08 (Fine Arts), David Rakowski (faculty, Music), Ellen Smith (faculty, Near Eastern and Judaic Studies), Matt Stern '08 (Music) and Joe Wardwell (faculty, Fine Arts).
Dance
- Susan Dibble (faculty, Theater Arts) for a performance by the Brandeis Dance Collective.
- Samantha Lakin '08 for "Improvisation Innovation," a tap performance improvised to live music.
- Casara Nemes '08 for "Red," a modern dance performance.
- Tzvetomira Kaltcheva (graduate student, Politics) for "Shopski Rhythms," a Bulgarian folk performance.
Music
- The Irving Fine Society for Irving Fine, American Master, performance of music by Fine and undergraduate composers.
- Mohammad Kundas '09 for a soundtrack recording for the documentary film, "Palestinians Inside Brandeis University."
- Seunghee Lee (graduate student in Music Composition and Theory) for "Sounds and Images from Korea," a performance of contemporary Western and traditional Korean music.
