![]() Brandeis University's commitment to social justice and transformation is reflected in many of the University's arts programs and research centers. We believe that the arts play a significant role in tikkun olam 'repairing the world.' The International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life is home to the Alan B. Slifka Program in Intercommunal Coexistence. It generates theoretical and practical knowledge through collaborations among artists, practitioners, scholars, and students. They sponsor a virtual center of Creative Resources for Coexistence and Reconciliation. The Women's Studies Research Center is where art, research, and activism converge. It is home to the Kniznick Gallery, the only exhibition space in New England devoted to women's art. Arts events are linked to scholarly research and seek to promote dialogue about issues related to women and gender. Music Unites US encompasses an Intercultural Residency Series linking the creative arts with explorations of culture, history, and tradition. Its Public School Education Program teaches diversity to school children through music expressing social themes such as freedom, justice, and identity. The Department of Anthropology, supported by the School of Creative Arts, sponsors a master's degree program in cultural production dedicated to the intersections of art, imagination, technology, and politics. Areas of concentration include Art and Politics, HIV/AIDS and Culture, and Jewish Heritage. The Intercultural Center serves as an umbrella for fifteen student clubs celebrating the diversity and similarities of Brandeis students. The ICC sponsors exhibitions, films, and performances including Culture X -- a multicultural celebration of dance, music, and poetry. |
