BEST Members

The Brandeis Environmental Sustainability Team is a collaborative environmental working group of students, faculty and staff.

Bill Bushey Bill Bushey is the university's energy manager. Within the Office of Facilities Services, he is responsible for energy budgeting and procurement; monitoring, tracking and reporting energy consumption; and implementation of the campus-wide energy conservation program. He can provide energy usage and conservation related information.
   
  Janna Cohen-Rosenthal '03 is the university's sustainability coordinator. She is the chairperson of BEST and responsible for implementation of the university's climate action and sustainability work. A graduate of the Environmental Studies Program,  she is excited to work with BEST and the campus community to make Brandeis a sustainability leader. 
   
Dan Feldman
Dan Feldman is vice president for Capital Projects. He has personally ensured that new construction projects on campus have been as "green" and sustainable as possible. He is a dedicated member of the environmental community at Brandeis.
   
Dennis Finn Dennis Finn is the grounds manager in the Office of Facilities Services. He is responsible for the outdoor infrastructure of the campus and oversees recycling. He is actively involved with Students for Environmental Action and assists students in many environmental initiatives on campus.
   

 
Lisa Fleischman is the associate director of Annual and Special Gifts. She is responsible for raising funds for the university's general operating budget and specific programs, including the Environmental Studies Program. Being involved with BEST gives her the opportunity to learn about campus sustainability initiatives and pass on this knowledge to interested donors.
   
Laura Goldin
 
Professor Laura Goldin is associate director of the Environmental Studies Program and director of the Environmental Internship Program. She teaches a range of courses in environmental law and policy, environmental sustainability, and women, the environment and social justice. She came to Brandeis with more than 20 years experience as an environmental lawyer and policy-maker in government, industry and public interest. Laura's work has addressed a broad spectrum of environmental issues, from hazardous waste and air and water pollution, to occupational health and safety, toxic exposure, product safety and land use regulation. She continues to do pro bono work on a number of environmental justice, wetlands protection and other cases.
   
Michael Newmark Michael Newmark is the director of Dining Services. He has been instrumental in environmental initiatives in the dining halls. He has assisted with composting research, phased out plastic containers in favor of biodegradable varieties and is constantly working to promote environmental initiatives.
   
Stephanie Sofer
Stephanie Sofer '09 is majoring in environmental studies and minoring in women and gender studies. She is president of Students for Environmental Action (SEA) and BEST meetings coordinator. She is particularly interested in environmental education, policy and legislation.
