Bridging Scholarship and Pedagogy in Jewish Studies
Conference Video:
A Pragmatic Pedagogy of Bible
Respondent: Jon A. Levisohn
Levisohn argues that, even when we place meaning at the center, we should also help students learn over time to choose better over worse interpretations, regardless of the meanings they purport to produce, and should not abandon the notion that interpreters still need to justify their chosen angles of vision. Also, we are left with the question of how the biblical text confronts and makes claims on us, instead of simply producing the kinds of meaning we seek in it.
