Bridging Scholarship and Pedagogy in Jewish Studies
Plenary Session at NRJE 2005
Marc Brettler
Brettler argues that an important starting point for a college or university teacher preparing to teach introduction to the Hebrew Bible is the possible reasons that students are taking the course. These and other goals will shape particular pedagogic choices with respect to what to include and in what proportion. There is a need for teacher research into this process that goes beyond mere reflection; there are both potential obstacles to real research by academics into this and other aspects of their own teaching practice, as well as many potential benefits.
