Tanchel analyzes the curricular justifications for and her experience of teaching the documentary hypothesis to twelfth-grade students in a pluralistic Jewish high school. She argues for the benefits of meaningful exposure to this approach before college and young adulthood, in an environment that supports students’ Jewish growth and identity formation.
