Tanchel notes that the documentary hypothesis can’t meet the needs of every student at every moment. It is important to move students from a simple approach to faith towards a complex, multivocal, even (at times) contradictory faith, one with which they actively grapple, and twelfth graders are well situated to engage with the Torah in this way.
