Catholics, Jews, and the Prism of Conscience: Response to James Carroll's Constantine's Sword
On January 22, 2001, The Sarnat Center, along with the Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life at Brandeis University hosted a special symposium to coincide with the publication of a major new book by James Carroll, Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews, A History . (Houghton Mifflin, 2001). Carroll's book maps the two-thousand-year course of the history of Roman Catholic Church's relationship to Judaism - from the time of Jesus to the Holocaust and discusses the crisis of faith it has provoked in his own life as a Catholic. James Carroll describes his book as "history as refracted through personal conscience." His previous work includes nine novels and a memoir, American Requiem, which won the National Book Award in 1996.

A book was produced as part of this event, and copies of the book can be viewed online in PDF form. If you would like a printed copy of the book, please contact the Sarnat Center.
