Admissions

Applicants may apply to the Program in one of several ways:

  • Visiting Scholars

  • Visiting Research Associates

  • Dissertation Scholars

Visiting Scholars

The Visiting Scholar affiliation is for Scholars who are interested in the possibility of a longer-termed affiliation with the Scholars Program.  Visiting Scholars are affiliated with the Program for two years.  They must "renew" themselves at the end of the first year.  At the end of the second year, they are eligible to apply for Resident Scholar status.  Resident Scholar status allows a Scholar to be affiliated with the Program for as long as s/he chooses, so long as s/he is engaged in research on women and/or gender.

The application deadline for this affiliation is February 15th of each year.

Visiting Research Associates

The Visiting Research Association affiliation is for Scholars who are interested in a shorter-termed affiliation (one year or less) and for Scholars who are on sabbatical from another academic institution.  Visiting Research Associates may renew their affiliation at the end of the academic year and in subsequent years.  If they are interested in a longer-termed affiliation, they may apply for Visiting Scholar status by submitting an application by the February 15th deadline.

Applications for this affiliation are accepted three times a year, as follows:

  • Submit by July 1 to be considered for an affiliation beginning on September 1
  • Submit by November 1 to be considered for an affiliation beginning on January 1
  • Submit by March 1 to be considered for an affiliation beginning on June 1
Dissertation Scholars

This affiliation is appropriate for Scholars who are in the final stages of completing their dissertation.  This is a one year maximum affiliation with no opportunity to renew.

The application deadline for this affiliation is June 1st of each year.

Application materials, for all application types, include:

  • Application form
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Representative sample of the candidate's work
  • Statement of proposed goals for the next year including work on a project that focuses on women's lives or gender issues.

All applications are reviewed and evaluated by the Admissions Committee (composed of Scholars and members of the Brandeis University faculty) and presented to the WSRC Director for discussion and final approval.
