I continue to focus on the problems faced by families who have a mentally ill family member.

Biography

June Ellen Mendelson is a social activist and researcher with a background in public health.  She has a broad interest in social and economic issues as they relate to women and mental health care.  At the center of her concern is access to quality mental health care for women.  

June Ellen is an active member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.  She is a leader for Family to Family, a course developed for family members of mentally ill persons.  She also serves as President of her local NAMI affiliate and is an elected member of the Massachusetts Board of Directors of NAMI.  She is a member of the Commissions for Persons with Disabilities in Cambridge, where she resides.  She established a program in Cambridge that assists persons in recovery to return to their appropriate educational level and develop career goals.  She is also a member of an advisory board for the managed Medicaid mental health delivery system.  She works as an evaluator of mental health services in Massachusetts. June Ellen is an advocate for universal health care, with an emphasis on the needs of women, children, and the mentally ill.
