Position:  Survey Statistician
(Research Associate)

Description:  Assist the Principal Investigators and research staff in demographic studies of the Jewish population in the U.S. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Statistical analysis of large primary and secondary datasets: includes setting up data, cleaning/screening data, conducting advanced analyses, summarizing results in the form of abstracts, memoranda and reports
  • Code methodological characteristics of studies
  • Create customized charts and tables from analyses
  • Help to maintain data collection systems
  • Contribute to reports, journal articles and presentations based on analysis work
  • Perform other research support tasks as necessary 

Requirements: Master's degree or B.S./B.A. with several years of experience in Psychology, Sociology, Public Policy, Economics, Applied Statistics or other related social science field.  Requires excellent quantitative, analytical and writing skills and extensive experience with at least one major statistical software package (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Stata, R).  Knowledge and experience with the analysis of complex surveys (clustering/stratification, weighting, design effects and variance estimation).  Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques such as meta-analysis and multilevel modeling and familiarity with programming with R statistical software a plus.  Interest in Jewish studies or religious/ethnic/social identity is preferred.  This position requires a detail-oriented individual who is highly motivated, organized, flexible, and can work both independently and as part of a team. Must demonstrate solid mathematical ability and analytic thinking skills. 

Position: Web & Database Developer

Classification: Full-time, non-exempt (will accept part-time applicants)

Summary: The Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis is seeking a web programmer.  Knowledge of ColdFusion, HTML, CSS, SQL Server, Javascript. 

Responsibilities:        

  • Work with existing programs and scripts and enhance system to support new specifications.
  • Develop front end web pages for existing web sites.
  • Enhance back-end administration systems.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance databases and database schemas.
  • Develop custom reports.
  • Support and enhance open source products.
  • Work closely with existing developers to gain knowledge of best practices for existing systems and apply to new version.

Requirements: Must have demonstrated proficiency with Cold Fusion, HTML, CSS, SQL Server, and Javascript.  Desire to work in an academic setting. PHP, Windows OS, Windows Servers, and Graphics skills a plus.  This position requires good communication and teamwork skills, good organization, and a comfort with multi-tasking.

Position: Systems Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve web applications built on ColdFusion, PHP, mySQL and SQL Server and support a small community of researchers.

Requirements: Must have solid systems administration experience configuring and maintaining Miscrosoft IIS web sites and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 databases, mySQL databases and some desktop hardware set-up and installation experience. Scripting and programming experience, PHP or Cold Fusion experience, and SQL and database knowledge is a plus. Applicants should be interested in providing ongoing desktop. 

Position: Customer Relations Manager for JData (Research Specialist)

Description: JData.com, a revolutionary website and database dedicated to Jewish education, is looking for a fulltime customer relations manager (CRM). JData gathers core information on Jewish educational organizations, preschool through college, across North America. The project is operated by the Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University and funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation.

Responsibilities: The customer relations manager is responsible for managing relations with hundreds of users in schools, camps, early childhood centers, and campus organizations. The CRM has primary responsibility for data collection for the JData database. This individual will develop a customer relations system for JData and assure that all members of the team are trained to use it to full effect. The position also entails marketing, communications, help and technical support, and research. The customer relations manager serves as a key member of the JData team, helping to develop content for the website and to plan for its future growth and enhancement.

Requirements: The successful candidate must be a team player with knowledge of and a commitment to the Jewish community and an abundance of optimism and creativity. Desired skills include comfort with technology, good organization, high attention to detail, and outstanding interpersonal skills. Undergraduate degree required.

Starting date:  Any time between May 1 and July 1
