Dr. Meenakshi Gopinath of India, Coexistence International Advisory Board Member and panelist at the upcoming CIÂ conference "Pieces of the Coexistence Puzzle," is being awarded a Padma Shri award for outstanding service to her country in the field of literature and education.
Her nomination was announced on the 58th Republic Day on January 26th, but the award will be presented by the President of India in March. The Padma Awards - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri - are given for exceptional and distinguished service, distinguished service of high order, and distinguished service in a field, respectively. "Padma"Â means "lotus," an important symbol in Indian culture.
Republic Day is a national holiday of India, marking its transition from a British Dominion to a republic on January 26, 1950. It is one of the three national holidays in India.
Coexistence International commends Dr. Gopinath for this high honor and for her longstanding commitment to building a more peaceful and equitable world.
