Letter from the President

Dear Parents of Brandeis Seniors,

As your child enters his or her Senior year at Brandeis, it is my great pleasure to write to you about Commencement Weekend. Commencement is the culmination of their years of study and personal growth at Brandeis, and is an experience that Brandeis students and their families will remember forever.  Events are scheduled for May 18, 19 and 20, 2012, and more than 7,500 students, members of their families, friends and relatives will join in celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates.

Many more details will be available in the coming months, so please watch this Web site for updates.  It will contain the best and most complete information about the full schedule of events for Commencement Weekend.  One date to note in particular is the President's Reception for graduates and their families, which is scheduled for Friday, May 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Kathy and I look forward to seeing you then, and having the opportunity to congratulate you in person.

Due to the limited availability of hotel rooms in the Greater Boston area during the spring commencement season, I encourage you to make your hotel reservations early.  Be sure to mention your Brandeis affiliation.

As a parent myself, and also as President of this remarkable institution, I share your pride in your child. Our students’ accomplishments speak to the quality of their efforts and the education they have received at Brandeis.  I hope it has been a rich and rewarding experience for all of them, and that they will choose to maintain a lifelong association with their alma mater through the Alumni Association. As I have told them on a number of occasions already, and will remind them again when I am privileged to address them at the Commencement ceremony itself, they are undergraduates for four years, but they are alumni for the rest of their lives.

Best regards.

Fred Lawrence
President
