Background and Description
Charles Ziegler holds advanced degrees in physics and cultural anthropology and has worked and published in both fields. As a research physicist he was employed as a staff scientist at several government and industrial laboratories and became co-founder and president of Panametrics, Inc., a firm which designs and manufactures scientific instruments. As a cultural anthropologist he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to conduct research on the modulating effect of sociocultural factors on the rapidity of technological advances in the US. He has held positions as an adjunct professor and (currently) as a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Anthropology at Brandeis, where his special interests are organizational theory, the anthropology of science, and cognitive anthropology. He has been author, coauthor, or editor of three books and forty-five articles in professional journals.
