Masters Degree in Anthropology

Students admitted to the M.A. program must fulfill the Graduate School's residence requirement of one full year of coursework (8 semester courses) passed with graduate credit (i.e., with grades of B- or higher). Courses will include the two-semester foundational sequence: ANTH 190a History of Anthropological Thought and ANTH 193b Contemporary Issues in Anthropological Theory. Students must take and pass a program of six elective courses, designed around the student's anthropological interests and selected with the approval of the student's faculty advisor. Finally, the student must submit to his/her advisor and one additional faculty member an acceptable research paper 25-35 pages in length. The paper may have been written in an Anthropology course.
