Alfonso F Canella
Mr. Canella has worked in the finance function of various industries for over 20 years: energy consulting at Arthur D. Little, Inc., project finance and energy investments at Bank of Boston, engineering finance at Digital Equipment Corporation, financial planning at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, and budgeting and planning at Brandeis University.
Aside from his teaching, Mr. Canella works with students and the Career Planning office in career planning, interview preparation, and resume building. Also, Mr. Canella supervises internships and IBS's case competition teams, one of which won the CFA Research Challenge's Boston Final for the third year in a row. Looking overseas given IBS's mission as an international program, Mr. Canella is working on his 5th Hassenfeld Fellows Program, which uses a generous gift to send IBS students overseas for a one week immersion program. Mr. Canella is looking to borrow from this program to create an alumni travel program that will bring alumni together to fund raise for scholarships.
Mr. Canella worked collaboratively with the IBS IT department to create and deliver IBS's first ever online course. This course served as a pilot to inform future online course strategies and tactics. Mr. Canella will deliver a formal presentation of the potential benefits of online courses to the deans at IBS for inclusion on the IBS curriculum.
Mr. Canella has served as host to visitors from Cuba that were invited to talk about their country and the changes it is undergoing. Mr. Canella is working with a Cuban applicant to IBS. If admitted, this applicant would be the first Cuban national admitted to Brandeis in recent history. In addition, Mr. Canella works with IBS Admissions and Development staff to increase the number of Latin American students to the program. In doing so, Mr. Canella has hosted LatAm students at his home as part of the effort.
