Admission and Financial Aid
Admission to the graduate programs in the English and American literature department is competitive and selective. We seek scholars who will greatly contribute to the field and that are passionate about their research. Prospective applicants apply to the department through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Applicants are required to submit an application form (preferably online), a nonrefundable application fee, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, official test scores, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and a writing sample. Because application requirements may vary by degree program, you should be sure to follow the deadlines set forth by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Ph.D. students normally receive full scholarship support from the university, along with a stipend and health insurance for five years. Learn about the specifics of financial assistance through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
