ACT Roxbury and the Color of Film Collaborative are currently planning the 7th Annual Roxbury Film Festival: Celebrating the Vision & the Voice of New England Filmmakers of Color. This is a four- day event scheduled to take place August 17 - 21, 2005. In just six short years, The Roxbury Film Festival has become the premier festival for films by and about people of color, attracting prominent filmmakers and artists both from New England and outside the region. In August, 2004 we enjoyed our largest audience yet with with more than 3,000 attendees viewing 51 films and documentaries. The Festival also includes a number of workshops, Q&A sessions with filmmakers and an actors workshop along with pre and post Festival events.
Academic interns at Brandeis typically work 8-15 hrs per week for 10-13 weeks during the semester. How many hours of work are available? How many interns do you ordinarily require?
Expected work hours are between 25 and 30 per week.
What tasks does the intern ordinarily perform?
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual anxious to learn about the art of putting on a film festival from bottom up! Because we are a small organization, the intern will have an opportunity to be part of the entire event. The intern will assist the staff and committee in screening film submissions, public relations, guest transportation and arrangements, coordination of volunteers, database management, sponsor solicitation, planning for filmmaker panels, and Festival parties.
Does the work require special training? If so, what? What majors and backgrounds are preferred?
Individuals who have a background or training in publicity, public relations and/or marketing are especially encouraged to apply.
Is your site accessible by public transportation?
Yes
Do you offer a stipend for interns?
Yes
What kind of supervision do you provide for interns?
The student will work under the supervision of the festival director and public relations consultant.
What are the procedures, dates, and requirements for applying for an internship with your organization?
We would like the postion filled by mid June or as soon as possible. Applications are currently being accepted.
Is there anything else you would like to add that will help us find a good match for your organization?
The position requires a person with a high level of maturity and some prior experience in a professional environment, so graduate students and mature seniors or juniors are preferable.
