Experience in an immersion environment will boost your language skills and it will give you an opportunity to experience Russian culture.

Semester Study Abroad Programs in RussiaCIEE Semester Abroad in St. Petersburg Russia
Brandeis University sends students to St. Petersburg on the CIEE Program. This program requires three semesters of college level Russian. If you have minimal language skills it is recommended that you first participate in a summer program or you should consider enrolling in beginning Russian language courses at Brandeis.

Russian language courses (and home stays) are available through the Tver InterContact Group. This program is unique in that it is quite flexible. You can add as many weeks of study you would like. Trips to Moscow are also available. Another attractive features of this program is that it is in a smaller city.

Council of Teachers of Russian, Summer Program in Moscow
The ACTR summer program has been in existence for many years. It takes place
in Moscow State Univeristy and it includes home stays. It is more expensive
than the Tver program, but it puts you in the center of Moscow.

American Association of Teachers or Slavic and East European Languages maintains
a megasite listing most of the reputable summer study and semester study programs.

Intensive Beginning Russian taught by a native speaker. Eight weeks.
Middlebury
Russian Language Summer School
Probably one of the best known intensive summer language programs, Middlebury
Summer School has a reputation of excellent teaching in an intense immersion
setting. It is expensive, but there are scholarships available.

Language Institute, Indiana University
The University of Indiana's Language Institute is less expensive than Middlebury's
Russian School, but it is good option if finances are a concern.
Monterey
Institute
The Monterey Institute is well known as it is one of the few institutions of
higher learning that certifies translators. Their summer program in Russian
has a good reputation.
