Chamber Choir

Singing in the Brandeis Chamber Choir gives singers added opportunity to explore more deeply the limitless choral repertory. Singing in a smaller ensemble of good sight-readers, each singer is vocally and musically independent and responsible. Chamber Choir singers often also provide leadership in the larger University Chorus.

Regular rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30-4:50 p.m.
FIRST REHEARSAL is Monday, September 8.

Past repertory includes:
Mass for 3 Voices by William Byrd (1543-1623)
Two Choruses by Andrew Imbrie (1921-2007)
Bach’s Lobet den Herrn and Monteverdi’s Laudate pueri (Psalm 113)
Choral songs of Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, and Edward Elgar

AUDITIONS for University Chorus and Chamber Choir will be scheduled as soon as possible.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
•Singing scales to hear range possibilities and voice quality

•Slow arpeggio singing for accuracy of pitch

•Intervals: ½ and whole steps differentiation

•Rhythm exercise for accuracy

•Sight singing your part of a Bach chorale with piano accompanying
and sight singing a piece of Renaissance polyphony–if you’ve sung a motet, you’ve most likely done this kind of music.

**Chamber Choir membership is determined by a double audition.
For Chamber Choir, some sight-reading skill and the ability to learn a part independently are taken into account.
