Jean Meltaus has been an Instructor of Piano at Brandeis University since 2000. She received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Westminster College and earned her Master's Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. She was the recipient of the Rotary Foundation Grant for International Study in France. While there she studied piano with Gaby Casadesus and vocal accompanying with Bernard Plantey. She served on the piano faculty of Gordon College for ten years and held the position of Lecturer at Boston College where she was the Director of the Boston College Madrigals. She is the former conductor of the Handel & Haydn Society Vocal Apprenticeship Chorale; former Repertoire and Standards Chairperson for Children's Choruses for the Mass. American Choral Director's Association; former pianist, Würtembergisches Staatstheather (Germany).
Ms. Meltaus presently serves on the faculty of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. She teaches Music Theory and is the Director of the Children's Chorus Program. Under her direction the Children's Chorus has been invited to sing for the Eastern Division American Choral Director's Association and has sung with some of Boston's most venerable institutions: The Handel and Haydn Society, Chorus pro Musica, the Boston Philharmonic, the Gardner Museum, the Boston Ballet, Boston Musica Viva and the Celebrity Series. She has recorded under the Albany Records label. Her chorus is especially known for performing works by living composers.
