Thomas A. Souza joined the faculty at Brandeis University as Wind Ensemble Director in 2005 and teaches in the Chelmsford Public School system. He holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in Performance and Music Education and a Masters of Music Degree in Conducting in 2006. Mr. Souza has been a guest clinician and conductor for concert bands in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. He has also has been an associate conductor for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Concert Band and Wind Ensemble. As a performer, Mr. Souza has given recitals including one based around the music of and written for Benny Goodman. In 1998 and 2001, Mr. Souza was the winner of the annual Concerto Competition sponsored by the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Wind Ensemble. In recent years, he has performed with multiple wind and concert bands including the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, the Lowell Summer Concert Band, the Southeastern Massachusetts Wind Symphony, as well as many pit orchestras in and around Boston doubling on saxophone. Mr. Souza has studied or performed in master classes with David Martins of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, Ian Greitzer and Ethan Sloane of Boston University, Bartok Yates formerly of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, and Michel Leitec of the Paris Conservatory. Mr. Souza maintains a private clarinet studio with students from Northeast and Central Massachusetts. |
