NEJS OFFICE STAFF

Anne Lawrence
Anne Lawrence, Administrator

Welcome, everyone, to the 2007-2008 academic year.  It’s always exciting to greet students and faculty as they arrive, fresh and eager, ready to embark on a year of new experiences.  Most folks don’t realize that the NEJS office is open year-round, and that even when students and faculty are away, we are diligently preparing for the next semester.  Although it’s not readily apparent, quite a bit of preparation goes into developing the forms and materials that await you once you return for the fall.

This is my 17th year at Brandeis, and my seventh in the NEJS Department.  I’ve worked here all these years because I love what I do.  My role as Administrator of the department is to facilitate the Brandeis education by doing whatever it takes to help our teachers to teach, and our students to learn. That role involves work behind-the-scenes, lots of planning, problem solving, and organization! I care deeply about this department and love working with the "nation of NEJS."  Our eminent professors number about 18, with 4 to 5 visiting faculty per year.  We have roughly 60 graduate students (both master’s and doctoral), and hundreds of undergraduate majors, minors, and students in Hebrew, Arabic, and IMES. It’s been fun to watch our students progress from ‘day one’ all the way to graduation day. The enthusiasm students have for NEJS courses and NEJS faculty is heart-warming. Please stop in to the NEJS office (Lown 211) to introduce yourselves when you can.  After all, it's that personal touch (and our bottomless M&M machine) that makes NEJS so special.

Heather Gardener
Heather Gardener, Coordinator

Hello, and welcome!

I’m Anne’s assistant, and have been at Brandeis and the NEJS department for less than a year so this will be my first time getting everything rolling at the beginning of the academic year. Anne and I have been hard at work getting things ready, and I’m looking forward to meeting new NEJS students and catching up with the ones I already know.

As Department Coordinator, I maintain the NEJS website and assist Anne with the (seemingly) millions of tasks that help keep the department running. As you get settled at the beginning and throughout the year, please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

Jodi Ellenbogen, Student Worker

Hi, my name is Jodi Ellenbogen and I am a fourth-year student here at Brandeis. I am interested in NEJS, psychology, and creative writing, and have been working as a NEJS student worker for two years. I'm from Maryland, and love that crazy, New England weather!

Ana Raven
Anastasia Raven, Student Worker

Hi, my name is Anastasia Raven and this fall is my second semester at Brandeis. I was a midyear last year. First semester, I taught Math, English, Science, and History to high school students in rural Kenya. I'm from New York and I plan to major in IGS and Politics with a minor in Anthropology. This is my first year as a NEJS student worker and in my free time, I participate in various extra-curricular activities. I'm on the Brandeis Cheerleading squad and I participate in the Gymnastics and Ice Skating clubs.
