After earning his bachelor's degree in Classics at UNH, David Karjala moved on to Harvard University where he holds an MA in Semitic Philology with a focus on Arabic and Arabic dialectology. Since then, he has taught courses in Modern Standard Arabic at Harvard University, Harvard Summer School and Middlebury Summer Language School. At Brandeis, he instructs and coordinates first- and second-year Arabic language classes. His interests include historical Semitic linguistics, general linguistics, poetry and music.
