Kanan Makiya, the Sylvia K. Hassenfeld Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, was interviewed by The New York Times about plans for the American University of Iraq.

Jonathan Sarna was one of three scholars selected to participate in the academic symposium on “The future of Religion in America” at the inauguration of Arnold Eisen as Chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary, Sept 5, 2007


STUDENTS


James Getz presented a paper at the Society for Biblical Literature - New England Regional in the spring entitled "The Nazirite Proscriptions in  Numbers 6"; and will be presenting a paper entitled "Hurrying the  Analogy: The Analogical Function of Hurrians and Beds in CAT 1.132" at  the SBL National this fall.

Victoria Khiterer presented “The Brodsky Sugar Kings: Jewish Industrialists, Philanthropists and Community Leaders of Late Imperial Russia” at the 13th Annual Conference of the Western Jewish Studies Association.  She also presented the Natalie and Mendel Racolin Memorial Lecture, “Jewish Life in Kiev at the Turn of the 20th Century” at the Center for Jewish History at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.
