Jay hails from Johnson City, Tenn. He received a B.A. in mathematics at Erskine College in Due West, S.C., before joining the philosophy program at Brandeis.
His philosophical interests lie broadly in metaphysics, particularly in examining the impact of Leibniz's theodicy on modality and causality and exploring the relationship between God and time.
Outside of philosophy, he greatly enjoys John Calvin, Lewis Carroll, R. A. Lafferty, Joss Whedon, Christopher Nolan, Kansas, The Weakerthans, Scriabin, University of Tennessee football and U.S. men's soccer.
