McKay is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, where he earned his B.A. in philosophy and political studies at Westminster College, and worked in politics and public education.
In philosophy McKay likes to think about the structure, content and function of emotions, especially when they underlie moral arguments. Along those lines, he pursues a variety of questions in legal and political philosophy, as well as religion and the history of ideas. Although a bit intellectually promiscuous by nature, he has engaged in a long and productive relationship with one Baruch Spinoza.
Outside all of that, he's into film, slalom waterskiing, and snowboarding. He roots for the Atlanta Braves and the Utah Jazz, and thus endures perennial heartbreak.
