Ph.D. Program requirements in brief

Years of coursework: Two; at full time, three courses per term.
Required courses: Five field seminars: International Relations, Comparative Politics, American Political Development, Political Theory, and Qualitative Analysis.
Additional requirements: Second-language proficiency or statistics course.
Comprehensive Exams: After two years of course work, in September of third year of study, one in major field, one in minor field.
Full-time faculty: 18.
Average time to completion: Four-and-a-half to seven years.
