Three New Faculty Join the Department
Kerry Chase
Professor Chase holds a PhD in political science from UCLA. He specializes in international political economy. His first book was on Trading Blocs: States, Firms, and Regions in the World Economy (Michigan, 2005). He is currently preparing a book on Theater of Conflict: Commerce, Culture, and Competition in the Global Entertainment Industry. Professor Chase won the 2003 Undergraduate Initiative in Teaching award at Tufts for “excellence in teaching and advising.” He will teach courses on the international political economy, international trade, and globalization. He will be teaching in the IGS program as well as the Politics Department.
Jill Greenlee
Professor Greenlee holds a PhD in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. Her dissertation was on The Political Dynamics of Parenthood. Professor Greenlee was recognized as an “Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor” at Berkeley, where she took over responsibility for teaching the Political Science Department’s introductory course in American Politics. She will be teaching courses on women in politics, on research methods, and political psychology, as well as our Introduction to American Politics.
Mingus Mapps
Professor Mapps holds the PhD in political science from Cornell University, where he wrote a dissertation on reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act. His current research focuses on The Politics of State Legislative Elections and issues of race, redistricting, and minority representation. Professor Mapps will teach courses in Politics and AAAS on urban politics, and race in American politics. Both his Politics courses and his AAAS courses count toward the Politics major, in the American politics subfield.

Kishwer Falkner was appointed as the first Muslim woman to the House of Lords in 2004. In the Lords, she has served on the Joint Committee on Human Rights; the European Union Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and International Development; and on the Joint Committee on the Legal Services Bill. In 2005, she was appointed to the Prime Minister's Taskforce on Tackling Muslim Extremism. She has served as Liberal Democrat Spokesman on Home Affairs and is Spokesman on Communities and Local Government. In September 2006, Kishwer was awarded a Fellowship at Harvard University's Institute of Politics (John F. Kennedy School of Government), where she has concentrated on US Foreign Policy and Democracy in the Islamic world.

Prof. Schildkraut received her Ph.D. from Princeton University and is the author of Press 'One' for English: Language Policy, Public Opinion, and American Identity (Princeton University Press, 2005). She has published articles in Political Behavior, Political Psychology, Political Research Quarterly, and Perspectives on Politics.

Klausen will talk about her controversial research findings and sign copies of her book at 4:00pm in the Shapiro Campus Center Atrium. The event is free and open to the public.
