Department Ranks Fifth in Book Publishing
The Brandeis Department of Political Science was ranked number five in book productivity by a study published in PS Online in December 2002.
"Graduate Training, Current Affiliation and Publishing Books in Political Science" by Tom Rice, James McCormick and Benjamin Bergmann based rankings by calculating the research productivity of doctoral program graduates.
The Brandeis Department of Politics Ph.D. Program was ranked 24th out of the top 96 doctoral programs for the placement of program graduates into faculty positions in doctoral institutions.
“Ranking Doctoral Programs by Placement: A New Method,” by Benjamin Schmidt and Matthew Chingos (PS, July 2007) based rankings on an analysis of rates of placement of program graduates into faculty positions in doctoral institutions.
On the basis of their analysis, the Brandeis Ph.D. program in political science ranks 24th out of the top 96 programs, controlling for size.
As Schmidt and Chingos point out, this result is an indication of “both the quality of students that a program is able to attract, and…the value that a program adds to those students over the course of educating them and helping them find employment.”
