PSYC 131a Child Development Across Cultures

Prerequisite: PSYC 33a or PSYC 36b
Child development will be compared across two cultures within the United States: the dominant European American culture and Navajo culture. The main objective of the course is to help students learn about the processes involved as culture influences development.

PHIL 133 Consciousness, Brain, and Self

Prerequisite: One course from Philosophy, or Neuroscience, or permission of instructor
Consciousness- what is it like to sense, feel, and think- is hardly a mystery. In this interdisciplinary course we will explore: 1. the ongoing philosophical debates about consciousness, 2. current empirical approaches to consciousness in cognitive psychology and neuroscience and 3. the ramifications of these scientific theories on our understanding of who we are and how we ought to live.
