RE: Additional Security Measures
In President Reinharz's message to the community yesterday, he referred to the heightened alert issued by the Office of Homeland Security. In response to this heightened alert, the University has taken additional steps to increase security on the Brandeis campus. Specifically, beginning tomorrow, Friday, February 14, the main entrance (on South Street) will be the only location at which vehicles will be permitted to enter and exit the campus. The sole exception to this policy will be during the hours from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, Monday through Friday, when T-lot gate, located between the Epstein Building and the train tracks, will be opened for exiting vehicles only. T-lot gate will otherwise remain closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice.
University Public Safety officers, Waltham police officers, or other security personnel may be stopping vehicles at the main entrance and checking identification. Please be sure to carry your Brandeis identification card at all times. If you have not been issued a Brandeis ID, you may be asked to present another form of official photo-ID. While these measures are time-consuming and may lead to some delay for vehicles entering the campus, for the safety of the entire campus community it is important that they be carried out. Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are requested as the University addresses its security concerns.
