Environmental Career Panel

RECAP

This event took place on Thursday, April 10th from 5 - 7 p.m.  in the Zinner Forum of the Heller School.

Green Jobs Forum: Exploring Your Career Opportunities

On a beautiful and warm afternoon, both undergraduate and graduate students gathered in the Zinner Forum in the Heller School to enjoy inspirational talks from professionals from all areas of the environmental sector. The panel began with Janet Domenitz '80, the executive director of MASSPIRG, who spoke about her experience breaking into the field of advocacy. Michael Granoff, the founder of SAFE (Securing America's Future Energy), spoke about dabbling in politics and various careers before seeing the "green light" of the environmental movement. Dwight Peavey, a senior scientist in the Boston regional office of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, spoke of his career in the EPA and his passion for academia. Afterward, Grey Lee, Executive Director of Land's Sake, Inc., humorously described his winding career from politics and real estate to sustainable local food production and youth education and outreach. Lastly, Janna Cohen Rosenthal, the first Brandeis University Sustainability Coordinator, shared her process of acquiring the needed array of skills to return to Brandeis and help the university increase its environmental stewardship. This event was a truly enlightening one that offered students the opportunity to ask questions and addressed their concerns. All of the speakers stayed afterwards to talk personally and informally with students.
