Check It Out!

Rabbi Shmuel Simenowitz is the Director of Project Y’aleh V’Yavo, Inc. and is famous for his maple syrup, Hassidic stories, guitar-playing, writing, and creative sustainable design projects. His organization runs programs, which take place in both the classroom as well as on his farm in southern Vermont, combining Torah and environmental sensibilities, and introducing students to farming. He divides his time between his home in Springfield, MA, and Sweet Whisper Farms, his maple farm in Readsboro, VT, billed as "Vermont’s only shomer shabbos, organic, horse-powered maple farm." The rabbi has been quoted as saying: "I was once told that the problem with me was that I was too extreme with combining my halacha (Jewish law) with my environmentalism. I told them that was the nicest thing anyone ever said about me."
